SANGEETHA RASIKA SANGAM - March, 2007
The 96th Music Program of Sangeetha Rasika Sangam, Chennai 92 was held at Sri Vara Siddhi Vinayagar Temple, Chinmayanagar (Central Chinmaya Mission Trust) on 18th March 2007. Raagam Sisters Kum V Sivaranjani and Kum V Nalina Kanthi featured, grand daughters of Mayavaram viswanatha Saasthrigal, and disciple of their mother Therazhandhur Kamala Venkataraman as vocalists while Sri Kovai Chandran accompanied him on the violin, Sri Umayalpuram Kalyanaraman on the Mridangam and Sri Ravichandran on the Ghatam The concert opened with Vathapi Ganapathim of Sri Muthuswamy Dhikshidhar in Hamsadwani executed briskly and mellufluously. This was followed by 'Srivalli devasenapathe' of Papanasam Sivan in Nata Bairavi which created a profound appeal from rasikas. The next one was Kamakshi, in Bilahari which was sung very well to leave a deep imprint in the minds of listerners. The popular Kriti of St Thiagaraja viz., Nagumo in Abheri was sung with bhava and melody. Easanai indha, of Papanasam Sivan in Chakravagam, also produced an aesthetic appeal. The next one in Saramathi captured the audience. Sonnathai Seithida in Ragamaligai was sung in an able and traditional form. Rama Niyeda in Karaharapriya also moved very much the audience. Finally, Kuraiondrum Illai, in Raagamaalika by Rajaji moved the audience very much. With Mangalam, the programme concluded.
