The 156th programme of Sangeetha Rasika Sangam, Chennai 600092, was held at Sri Siva Vishnu Temple, Natesa nagar, Virugambakkam on Sunday the 24th February 2013 between 6.30 and 8.30 pm. The kutchery was rendered by a young team, vibrant with energy and enthusiasm. Chithra Poornima Satish, a disciple of Bombay Jayasri, was the vocalist, accompanied by Sri K J Dileep on violin and Sri Sai Raghavan on Mrudhangam. Chithra Poornima started the concert with a Varnam 'Karunimpa' of Thiruvottiyur Thyagarajar in the Raaga Sahana, followed by a very melodious Krithi, Deva Deva by Swathi Thirunal in Mayamala Gowla, 15th Melam. She handled the Sangathies and Neraval so well that the audience enjoyed it and responded with applause. The next scintilating piece was in Nalina kanthi, a Janya Raaga of 29th Melam -Manavinalakin charadate of Thyagaraja. Then she moved on to a song, again by St Thyagaraja, but not so often heard, Nadupai balikaleru narulu, in Madhyamavathi, was executed with profuse melody. Her rendition of this raaga left a trail of sweet phrases and brigas ringing continuously in the ears of rasikas. She then soulfully sang Dhaamadham Thagadhaiyya in the Raaga Mohanakalyani with full Bhavam and made a mark. She brought out the nicety of the Raaga to the fore. A popular song in Chalanattai, 36th Vivadhi Melam, Yethayya Gathi, by Koteeswaraier was the next one rendered with full involvement. She ably brought out the nuances of the vivadhi swaras Shatstudhi Dhaivatham. Then she moved on to the main raga, Thodi and elaborated it very well exploiting effectively the scope available for the Raaga. The song, Ninne Namminanu sada of Syama Sastri was well received by the audience. After an interesting thani by Sri Sai Raghavan, Chithra Poornima sang a few songs like Muruga in Ahirbhairavi, Chandrasekaram in Sindubhairavi and a song in Sama ragam were rendered. After Tillana in Pahadi ragam and Chithra Poornima concluded the concert with Mangalam. Violin and Mrudhangam support was very good throughout the concert by Dhileep and Sai Raghavan respectively. The programme was well attended till last minute, enjoyed and appreciated by one and all.
