SANGEETHA RASIKA SANGAM - December 2012

The 154th Program of Sangeetha Rasika Sangam, Chennai 92 was held at Sri Siva Vishnu Temple, Natesa Nagar, Virugambakkam P.O., Chennai 600092 on Sunday the 21 December 2012 - between 6.30 pm and 9.00 pm.

Dr Kumari Bhairavi Raman, an Australian Artiste was the solo violinist. She was supported by Sri Nandesh Sivarajan, again an Australian Artiste, on the Mridangam and Sri Akshan Vaasavan on the Gatam.

She began to learn violin from Sri Murali Kumar. Sri Kumar initially learnt from Sri Kanchi Janardhanan and later from Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Padma Bhushan Sri MS gopalakrishnan.

She is a student in Psychology Degree at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

Bhairavi formally commenced the concert with Vaatapi Ganapathi in Hamsadwani.

Then Janani Ninnuvina in Reethi Gowla was her next song. She pleasantly communicated the Vakra Swara details of the Raaga which the audience enjoyed.

She then moved on to Pantuvarali, and the popular Krithi taken up was Ennaganu Rama Bajana. The swara elaboration was aesthetically pleasing.

She chose the next Krithi, Ranjani Maala, with Raagas Ranjani, Sriranjani and Megaranjani. The fusion of the Raagaas was highly appreciated by the audience.

She brought out of the various salient features of the Raaga, Kambodi by dwelling on the Raaga description using her bow in such a skilled way to produce a very melodious effect of this Raaga bringing cheer to, and admiration from the audience. O Rangasayee, a popular Krithi of Dhikshidhar was mellufluously flowing from her instrument. The song was rendered in Adhi Thaala (Irattai Kalai). The expression on the swara scale was more captivating and delightful.

The Mridhangist, during his Thani Aavarthanam, made a significant impact on the laya aspect.

The programme ended with Mangalam.
